The World Federation of Trade Unions, representing 105 million workers across 133 countries, strongly condemns the arbitrary and unlawful arrest of Remzi Çalışkan, Vice President of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) and President of Genel-İş Union, one of the largest unions within DİSK in terms of membership, along with Kemal Göksoy, President of the Mersin Branch of Genel-İş Union.
These arrests, made without any concrete or legal justification, represent a clear attack against the labor movement and an attempt to intimidate workers fighting for their rights. The WFTU views these detentions as a deliberate effort to undermine the struggle of the working class in Turkey.
As a class-oriented international organization, the WFTU reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), Genel-İş Union, and all their members. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Remzi Çalışkan and Kemal Göksoy.
This injustice is not an isolated act but it is part of a broader attack on workers’ rights and freedoms. Such actions, aimed at silencing workers and their representatives, will not be tolerated by the class-oriented trade union movement.
