I have been a worker at Dollar General for six months now. Throughout this time, I have met some good, hardworking people that I call my coworkers. Some of them have been here for over two years and only make $.50 more than me, a newer employee. I am a floater and work at all Dollar Generals in my area for extra hours because Dollar General doesn’t like to provide enough hours. This is one of many things wrong with this awful exploitative company.
For example, our general manager came in about a month ago and almost wrote us up because we brought drinks and food from home. He said, “You cannot bring anything in this store if it doesn’t have a receipt from Dollar General.” My manager asked what were we to do if we needed to eat or drink on break and he told us that we must buy our food and drink at Dollar General. Half of our staff threatened to walk out and he instantly changed his mind. With a small company like this, collective action can be a very effective tool.

Another violation is fire safety. We have so much stock and nowhere to put it all so we are forced to put it in hallways. We are even forced to put stock in unsafe and unsanitary places like the public bathroom. Many in this company like their jobs, we like the customers and our coworkers, and they make the day smoother. But many are fed up and want something to change. How can we move forward?
Thank You,
Anonymous Dollar General Worker
