A delegation of the ENEDEP Union of COSCO dockers of Piraeus, Greece is in Italy, at the invitation of the USB Trade Union, to visit the Italian port workers.
On Wednesday the delegation visited the port of Civitavecchia in Rome and the port of Livorno where they had meetings with the port unions and USB.
The meetings focused on the problems of the port workers in both Greece and Italy in relation to wages, inflation, health and safety measures as well as the consequences of the war and the actions of the workers in each country. The discussions highlighted the need for coordination and joint actions of the dockers and port workers. Also the Italian port workers expressed their solidarity with the Greek port workers in view of the general strike on 9 November.
Highlighting the links of the class unions of the ports with the struggle against fascism and imperialism, the Italian colleagues visited with the ENEDEP union monuments of the anti-fascist struggle, such as the monument of the fallen antifascist dockers of Civitavecchia.
The ENEDEP-COSCO union delegation continues its meetings today and will also visit the union at the Port of Genoa.
