The Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PEO) expresses its support and solidarity with the striking workers in the French refineries who with their struggles are asserting wage increases of 10% in the face of the huge wave of inflation that has destroyed the living standards of every working person across Europe, as well as asserting the taxation of big company profits.
We denounce the attempts to intimidate the striking workers and the French government’s announcement threatening strikers with requisitions to break up the movement. This action constitutes a violation of the trade union rights as stipulated in the conventions of the International Labour Organisation.
The working people, within the ranks of their trade union organisation FNIC CGT, which is affiliated to the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), are responding with militant action and resisting these threats and intimidation.
PEO supports the strike and just struggle of the French working people for the self-evident right of every working person to work under collective agreements and live with dignity in today’s conditions, which are deteriorating every day due to the devastating increases in prices and in the rate of inflation.
At a time when the crisis is deepening and social inequalities are growing, the class struggles of the working people in France and across Europe are conveying hopeful messages and giving strength to the working people’s struggles for a new path.
We assure the French working people that we stand by them, in solidarity with their struggles and strike actions.
