The eighth session for 2024 of the Harry Bridges School of Labor will be a viewing of the documentary on the 1973-74 Brookside Mine Strike, “Harlan County USA”. The viewing will be split between Wednesday and Saturday. This session with take place on Wednesday August 7 at 9pm EST/6pm PDT and Saturday August 10 at 7pm EST/4pm PDT.

Join us tonight, Tuesday July 30^th, for a special class of Peoples School for Marxist-Leninist Studies (PSMLS). The Harry Bridges School of Labor presented by Labor United Educational League (LUEL) was invited to give a presentation on the life of legendary class-oriented trade unionist leader, Harry Bridges.

In this class we will discuss his early life, his time organizing the longshoreman in San Francisco and concluding with his time as leader of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU).

Harry Bridges School of Labor 2023 Session 6: The AFL-CIO Role in the Chilean Coup of 1973 Available

Labor United Educational League is proud to announce we are releasing the recordings from the Harry Bridges School of Labor sessions. Launched in Spring 2023, the Harry Bridges School of Labor is a monthly class held 2x per month. Classes will cover a variety of topics aimed at building class conscious among union members. The sixth session of the Harry Bridges School of Labor was on The AFL-CIO Role in the Chilean Coup of 1973. The role the CIA played in the September 1973 military coup that installed a fascist dictatorship in Chile is well documented. Not as well known is the prominent role played by the AFL-CIO, through the CIA funded American Institute for Free Labor Development (AIFLD), now part of the AFL-CIO’s so-called “Solidarity Center”. We went through an overview of AIFLD, plus look into the role they played in the leadup and during the coup.

Harry Bridges School of Labor 2023 Session 5: Reaching Out to Conservative Workers Through Class Oriented Trade Unionism Recording Now Available

Labor United Educational League is proud to announce we are releasing the recordings from the Harry Bridges School of Labor sessions. Launched in Spring 2023, the Harry Bridges School of Labor is a monthly class held 2x per month. Classes cover a variety of topics aimed at building class conscious among union members. The fifth session of the Harry Bridges School of Labor was on Reaching Out to Conservative Workers Through Class-Oriented Trade Unionism. The trade union movement has been on the decline in the U.S. for the last half century. Many conservative workers view unions as pawns of the Democratic Party, while many liberal union members—especially leaders—view Republican workers as anti-labor. This has led to a failure to reach out to many workers who otherwise support the labor movement. This is why as class-oriented trade unionists it is important to not fall prey to the divide and conquer strategy that divides the working class. This session was focused on bringing conservative workers back into a vibrant class-oriented trade union movement.

Harry Bridges School of Labor 2023 Session 4: The State of the Trade Union Movement in Ukraine Recording Now Available

Labor United Educational League is proud to announce we are releasing the recordings from the Harry Bridges School of Labor sessions. Launched in Spring 2023, the Harry Bridges School of Labor is a monthly class held 2x per month. Classes will cover a variety of topics aimed at building class conscious among union members. In this session, we broke down the role of the AFL-CIO in the coup through their partnership with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) know as The Solidarity Center. We also detailed known attacks post-coup focusing on the House of Trade Unions massacre in Odessa on May 2, 2014. Finally, we discussed the legal ways the trade unions have been under attack.
