Nearly a year of ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, and the murderous Israeli state clearly demonstrates its intent to further escalate the crimes it is committing and to expand the war across the broader region of Arab territories.

The recent airstrikes and bombings in Lebanon, which have so far claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians and children, and caused immeasurable damage to healthcare facilities, schools, and more, once again confirm how ruthless and bloodthirsty the murderous state is.

The World Federation of Trade Unions demands an immediate ceasefire and an end to the bloodshed, and once again calls on the international community to stop supporting the murderous state, and take meaningful measures to condemn and to enforce a ceasefire.

Since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza in October, the Israeli war machine have escalated its aggressions, not only against the Palestinian people but also against the sovereign states in the region. The Israeli army continuously carried out air raids and artillery bombardment campaigns, while continuously flying spying drones in the southern region of Lebanon.

The latest attack targeted a paramedics center in the village of Al Habaria, resulting in the death of 7 paramedics, in a clear violation of international laws and treaties committing a war crime in broad day light.

The World Federation of Trade Unions strongly condemns the continuous aggressions committed by Israel against the people of Lebanon, and expresses its condolences to the families of the victims of the continuous bombing in Lebanon.

The WFTU mission to the Middle East, led by the General Secretary, Pambis Kyritsis, was successfully completed today.

During the 5 days of the visit, the General Secretary held a series of meetings with trade unions and Organizations from Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, political parties, and the political leadership of Syria. Furthermore, the delegation participated in solidarity activities with the struggling people of Palestine, organized by the class-oriented trade unions of the region.

The visit had been a very good opportunity to reiterate the long and cordial relations between the WFTU and Organizations of the region, and also to agree on a common action plan between them, with activities and initiatives in favour of the Arab peoples and the workers’ interests.

The common finding of all the activities carried out in the framework of the visit, is the fact that organization, militancy and internationalist solidarity are the most powerful weapons of the peoples struggling for freedom, for dignity, for disengagement from foreign interventions. The unity of the peoples’ struggle can and must defeat imperialism.

The WFTU, on the occasion of the completion of the visit, reaffirms that it will remain consistent and firm in its positions and in its support to the struggling people of the Middle East. We will continue to point out the hypocrisy of the imperialists, and to condemn Israel’s murderous aggression and the support it receives from the big imperialist powers, the United States, the European Union and their other allies. The international class-oriented trade union movement will continue to stand on the correct side of history: with the struggling people, against imperialism!

Images from the trip can be found here.

The Trades Unions International of Workers of the Building, Wood, and Building Materials Industries (UITBB) strongly condemns the legal attack its member organisation in Lebanon is under. Specifically, the National Federation of Workers and Employees Trade Unions in Lebanon (FENASOL) and its president, Castro Abdallah, are subjected to an unprecedented attack against freedom of association and trade union rights.

The construction company “MAN Enterprise” has filed a lawsuit against FENASOL and comrade Castro Abdallah, alleging incitement. This company has a history of high levels of labor rights violations, including forcing workers to sign contract terminations, withholding payment for overtime hours, and depriving them of proper healthcare in case of workplace accidents. FENASOL is fighting back with legal action, aiming at defending the rights of workers, specifically their right to unionize freely and independently and to protect their fundamental rights.

This attack on the workers is indicative of the attack the working class is under throughout the world by the capitalist order. UITBB and its members around the world will continue fighting for workers such as the ones in Lebanon whose rights are taken away, dying for the profits of the capitalists.

UITBB strongly condemns this attempt to intimidate union leaders and divert them from their responsibilities towards workers and employees. We call upon the Lebanese Ministry of Labor to assume responsibility and conduct inspections at the company’s worksites to halt these labor rights abuses.

On behalf of the millions of construction workers around the world under UITBB, we express our full solidarity with com. Castro Abdallah and call on the Lebanese authorities to protect his right to engage in union activities and to investigate the violations occurring in this company. We also call upon all our organisation-members to condemn these actions and send solidarity letters to FENASOL, as well as protest letters to the Lebanese Ministry of Labour.

Long live international solidarity!
