UPS Dragging Its Feet on Supplemental Bargaining Holding Up Contract Negotiations

The clock is ticking on a possible UPS strike by the Teamsters.  Negotiations began in January with the Teamsters, represented by General President Sean O’Brien and General Secretary Fred Zuckerman, stating they will not negotiate a national contract until the supplemental agreements are finalized. With twelve weeks to go until the end of the contract, little progress has been made with Teamsters calling out UPS for repeated delays.

Supplemental contracts are region-specific provisions not covered under the national contract like paid time-off, discipline language, seniority, overtime, and work hours.  Out of the 40 supplements, 30 remain unresolved after four months of negotiations.

“After pulling in record-breaking revenue of more than $100 billion last year, UPS is delusional to think they can just ignore the workers who make them successful… UPS is making a joke of supplemental negotiations. When they finally decide to bargain in a professional and serious manner, the Teamsters will be here, ready to go.”

Teamsters General President, Sean O’Brien

Over 340,000 Teamsters work at UPS and have twelve weeks until their current contract expires on July 31, 2023 making a potential strike August 1, 2023.
