USB alongside striking French workers

Sunday’s massive demonstration in Paris marks another important stage in this autumn of struggle that is coming to a head in France.

The strike by petrochemical workers is proceeding without any sign of relenting or weakening at Total’s refineries and depots.

A day’s strike for wage increases and in defence of the right to strike has been called for Tuesday 18 October by all unions and student unions, with many sectors already mobilised: public transport, railways, nuclear power stations, schools, health, ports.

The growing social anger and the general solidarity with the refinery strike show that there is an ongoing mobilisation, an awareness against this system and the urgency of a fundamental convergence of trade union, political and social struggles.
