The 4th Congress of the Trade Union International Chemistry and Energy, which took place in Paris on 27 to 30 November 2023, has been successfully completed.
The Congress was addressed on behalf of the WFTU by the Secretary General, Pambis Kyritsis.
TUI Chemistry and Energy acquires a prominent importance for the international class-oriented trade union movement. Energy is one of the most crucial sectors of the global economy, and is currently the subject of the fiercest global competition. The control of energy flows is behind conflicts, wars, and imperialist interventions. In this landscape, the workers in these sectors have a leading role in shaping the present global correlation of power between capital and labour. Therefore, the strengthening of the workers’ struggles in the sectors of Chemistry and Energy, constitutes a basic premise for the building of a world free of wars and imperialist interventions, free of exploitation, where work will be permanent and stable, regulated, and safe.
The dozens of delegates from all around the world who participated to the Congress, discussed and adopted the documents and elected the new Executive Committee of the TUI. The WFTU wishes all the best to the new elected bodies of the TUI, and expresses the sureness that the implementation of the decisions of the 4th Congress will be a strong element for the strengthening of the class-oriented trade union movement in the sectors of Chemistry and Energy.
