The World Federation of Trade Unions, the militant voice of 105 million workers from the length and breadth of the globe, expresses its sorrow for the passing away of Stan Sharkey in Sydney on Thursday night after a long illness.
Stan Sharkey had a long, priceless course in the Australian trade union movement and particularly the construction workers and he was the first joint National Secretary of the CFMEU.
Stan Sharkey supported and contributed to the WFTU Trades Union International of Workers of the Building, Wood and Building Materials Industries (UITBB) in the difficult period following the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
The class family of the WFTU conveys its sincere condolences to Stan’s relatives and colleagues and assures the trade unionists and the working class of Australia that will continue its tireless struggle for a human-centered society free of capitalist exploitation and imperialist wars.
