The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) stands in unwavering solidarity with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the workers of the country in their upcoming national strike on October 7th, 2024. This strike, addressing critical socio-economic issues plaguing the country, represents a crucial stand against exploitation and injustice.
We join our voices with COSATU’s demands for the protection of collective bargaining, for the prevention of crime and corruption, for the reduction of high interest rates and of the cost of living, and for labour law reforms. We support the demand for urgent implementation of the Zondo Commission Recommendations, for the immediate rollout of the National Health Insurance and urge decisive action against violence targeting women, children, and vulnerable individuals.
The struggle of the working class of South Africa against privatization, against job losses, for decent working and living conditions, is a struggle of the class-oriented trade union movement all over the world.
In the certainty that the militancy and decisiveness of the workers in South Africa will succeed in achieving their just demands, the World Federation of Trade Unions conveys a message of solidarity with the October 7 national strike!
