ITALY: The Transport Workers of USB Express Their Sorrow and Condolences to the Greek Railway Workers and the Families of the Victims of the Very Serious Accident in Larissa.

Now is the time to mourn and to share in the grief that is close to each of us because of the similarity of our professions, but it is also the time to understand where mistakes or failures may have been made.

We will not be surprised if someone takes the shortcut of human error to cover up any shortcomings in the organisation of work or in the choices made by employers, which our trade unions have been denouncing and fighting against for years, both in Italy and in Greece. We feel even more committed and determined that all responsibilities are established, considering that Hellenic Train has been owned by the Italian state railway group since 2017.

Today we mourn the dead among the workers and travellers: among those who, like us, work on the railways or who, like us or like our relatives or friends, choose the train every day to travel.
Tomorrow will be the time to resume the struggle so that railway workers in all countries can always return home in health and safety.

We embrace you all and send you our condolences.
