The World Federation of Trade Unions Expresses its Solidarity and Support to the People of Libya

Thousands of people were killed in Libya in floods caused by a huge Mediterranean storm that burst dams, swept away buildings and wiped out as much as a quarter of the eastern coastal city of Derna.

Two dams and four bridges collapsed in Derna, submerging much of the city when Storm Daniel hit on Sunday. About 10,000 people are reported missing, and the death toll is expected to rise further.

The WFTU sends it condolences to the family’s that lost their loved ones, and expresses its solidarity and support to the people of Libya in light of this catastrophe.

The WFTU demands implementation of immediate and adequate measures to ensure that no more lives will be lost and we demand the restoration and financial support of the affected areas and people.
