The demonstrations organized by trade unions, opposition parties and organizations, demanding the resignation of the President Park Geun-hye, are still ongoing. Until today, many tens of thousands of protesters have gathered at the demonstrations, making them some of the biggest ones since the demonstrations in 2008 against U.S. beef imports.
Park Geun-hye has been rocked by a scandal involving an old friend of hers who is alleged to have used her friendship with the president to meddle in state affairs. Park has pledged to cooperate with prosecutors in an investigation.
The WFTU denounces the reportedly scandal, the corruption in general and the buying of governmental authorities and officers so as they act in favor of the monopoly groups. We demand the independent investigation of the scandal and exemplary punishment of the culprits. The WFTU supports the struggle of the North Korean people for transparentness.
